Mosaics Basics (6 Sessions)

Description

This is a six-week course that meets on Thursday Evenings from 6-8:30pm: August 4, 11, 18, 25, Sep 1, 8.

Adult's Only, 18+

Learn the basics of mosaic design, different materials, several methods of construction, cutting glass and porcelain tiles, and explore options for various types of projects. 

Complete one or two projects, depending on size and complexity. Design your own or select from the instructor’s patterns.

Instructor Info:

Dotti studied art at Richmond Professional Institute (now VCU), Richmond VA. She was a professional photographer for many years in the Wash DC area as well as owner/designer of Great Falls Stained Glass in Northern VA, she created residential/commercial commissioned work and taught classes. 

Stone took up mosaics in 2004 while in Northern VA, relocated to Wirtz VA in 2007, opened a studio in Bower Center for the Arts in 2009, and the following year moved to Bedford to be part of its growing arts community. 

In 2015 she and several other mosaic artists formed BRMA, Blue Ridge Mosaic Artists. The group meets bimonthly, participates in exhibits, and works on community mosaics projects. 

Stone creates fine art panels and sculptural works, teaches mosaics classes to adults and to youth in Bower’s summer arts camp. Stone exhibits widely in the area, in national exhibits, and in 2013 teamed up with mosaic artist Stephen Brailo to present exhibits that combined his traditional classical style and her contemporary approach.

“Most rewarding is seeing what my students create, their excitement over the different materials and colors, learning various techniques and their applications, and developing an appreciation for mosaics. Mosaic art is one of the oldest art forms and creating and exhibiting them to inspire others to enjoy, appreciate, and learn about this versatile and tactile form of art is important and satisfying.”


Pricing

$150 for the class paid upon registration.

$35 material fee is paid to the instructor on the first day of class.
