DESCRIPTION: 

Course Overview: This Six week drawing class is designed for both beginners and intermediate artists who are passionate about capturing the human form. Focusing on figure drawing and drawing from life, this course provides a deep dive into techniques that have been the foundation of fine art for centuries. Students will develop their skills in observing and rendering the human figure, honing their ability to translate three-dimensional forms onto a two-dimensional surface. 

Techniques Covered: 

  • Gesture Drawing: Quick sketches that capture the essence and movement of the human form, improving speed and confidence.
  •  Proportion & Anatomy: Understanding the underlying structure of the body, with a focus on accurate proportions and anatomical landmarks. 
  • Shading & Light: Techniques to create depth and volume using various shading methods, exploring how light interacts with the human body. 
  • Contour Drawing: Developing the skill to capture the outline and essential features of the figure with continuous, confident lines.
  • Foreshortening: Tackling the challenges of perspective in figure drawing, learning how to depict the body in dynamic poses.


MATERIALS LIST: 

A Drawing pad (11”x 14” or larger) a variety of pencils, kneaded and plastic erasers, charcoal of various hardnesses. An easel or stand for your drawing pad. 


INSTRUCTOR BIO: 

Robert Keith IV is a seasoned artist and educator with over a decade of experience in the world of fine arts. Robert has dedicated his career to helping students unlock their creative potential by mastering the fundamentals of drawing. 

In the classroom, Robert is known for his patient and encouraging teaching style. He believes that every student has the potential to develop their artistic skills, regardless of their starting point. His classes are structured to build confidence and technical ability, with a strong emphasis on observational drawing, and the principles of perspective. 

Robert O. Keith IV is a native Coloradan, now happily residing in Huddleston, VA. He received a BFA at Colorado State University and an MFA at the University of South Carolina and currently teaches drawing courses at Radford University. 


CANCELLATION POLICY 

  • Cancellations made 1 week or more in advance of the class date will receive a 100% refund. Cancellations made within 3 - 6 days will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations made within 48 hours to the class will not be refunded. Students will have the option to transfer registration to another class in place of receiving a refund. 
  • Special consideration will be given to cancellations due to health-related issues and family emergencies.

  • There will be no refunds or discounts given for missed classes.
